Muffler Replacement- First Time 200 1982

I bet the piece that fell off probably looked sort of like this:

That was the inlet to my rear muffler that broke and was welded several times. I hack-sawed off that piece where the under-axle pipe makes a 90° bend into the rear muffler. I then slip-fit the muffler over the pipe and clamped it on:

The pipe is 2.25" and the muffler is 2.5" with a reducer. Don't ask, it's just temporary until the turbo motor...

I didn't have a tailpipe for a couple weeks, and the Magnaflow muffler proved to be very loud, although I liked the sound.

Using a 90° bend and a piece of straight pipe, I made a tailpipe. Now I can actually take the emissions test, and the muffler is MUCH quieter.

The installation is crude and unattractive, but the angle most people see looks pretty good, so I'm happy with it.

The only tools I used was a hacksaw, wrenches, and a socket set to remove the old muffler and clamp on the new muffler & pipes. I had a friend weld on the reducer pipe to the muffler, but the rest is clamped. When necessary, I had Midas enlarge the pipe and they didn't charge me anything.

Good luck.
