dies after warmup 200

1986 240GL when daughter warms it up for 20 minutes it will die off and have a dead battery. Charge it with jumper cables and it will drive home (5 miles) and restart. Battery checks out fine at Autozone. Alternator seems to work because she can drive home at night with lights and still have power in the battery. But why die all by itself from an idle after it starts?
