the in-line pump, or did you mean the in-tank pump? 200 1988

Hi. There are two pumps, both "in line" of course. One, the main fuel pump, is just ahead of the fuel tank (think, between the B and C pillars, nearer the C pillar), and more on the driver's side of the driveshaft.

The other is the in-tank pump, a.k.a., prepump. This is inside the fuel tank, hanging on the support for the fuel level sensor. You have to open the fuel tank to get to it -- remove the rear folding seat, and on the floor of the car, you'll see a metal plate. Unscrew the fasteners and you'll look down on the top of the fuel tank, at the "collar" that holds the hardward in place. Remove the collar (a whole other story), and you can pull out the hardware and see the pre-pump.
Good luck, and Happy Holidays.
Ken
