Ok as many of you will know I have been trying to sort out my 940'ts oil usaage for quite a time, and the latest idea involved splicing a catch tin into the flame trap to manafold line...(coffe mug sized tin wiht two right angle hose spiggots epoxy puttyied into it with a alumimium mesh filter around the 'inlet' side from the flame trap - theory, any oil should drop out in the tin so you can see which side its comming from...)
now this is working fine, and having used clear tube i can see whats comming into each side of the can...the construction of the can makes it nigh on impossible for anything to move across the can other than an air stream...
the results are weird..to say the least...
their appears to be a small amount of oil being blown FROM the manafold into the can...
when cleaned out the contents of the can smells of petrol (yes i have checked the FPR and nothing appears to be leaking from it even under vacume...)
the line fron the flame trap to the can appears to contain whipped cream...so does the can say a good egg cup full from 50-100 miles of shopping type journeys...the emulsion seems stable, stays emulsified even after 24+ hours....)
if i take the car for a good run this seems to clear from the tube..but obviously remains in the can...
the car is presently running on dyno oil as I am in the middle of an auto-rx wash cycle and seems to be using about 1/2 ltr oil per 350 miles....so its getting better! No fluid use other than the oil....
question...whats the emulsion (water&oil&petrol?) wheres it comming from, whats causing it to emulsify SO well and wheres the petrol comming from if not the FRP (i hooked the fpr up under vacume via clear tubing with a vacume guage T'd into it...good vacume on the gauge and no evidence of any vapour/fluid movement through the clear tubing even in over run)
other than this the car runs great!
