D'OH!!! now the hood doesn't open. 200

ok, so i installed the flat hood yesterday. I should have changed the latch and gotten the one off my old hood, but i didn't. I pressed the hood down, and now i can't get it open. Luckily I had taken the grill off before installing the hood, so i can reach behind the black column and feel the latch. The latch itself isn't even contacting anything. The culprit, it would appear, is the post with the spring on it(herein referred to as "springypost") So, what i'm wondering is, how the crap am I to get this thing out? the springypost seems wedged into the hole, so i don't know what to do. the black column that the horn is mounted on seems to be bolted in from the *inside* so pulling the column off and trying to knock the springypost out that way seems out of the question. As always, I appreciate any input.
