TTS is block drain? 140-160 1973

To drain, remove the lower hose from the radiator and put a bucket under it. Then remove the top hose, or remove the radiator cap (and lift up the expansion tank). It would help somewhat, but not much, to remove the thermostat in the housing at the top of the engine. It is supposed to have a bleed valve, but my not if the wrong/cheap one is installed! In that case, remove the thermostat to drain. Some water will remain in the engine. Removing the temperature sender will probably do it, but I'm not sure. Don't think the water goes much lower than the temperature sender, but I might be wrong. I'm not sure about this, but it should help to park the car on a slope so that the engine is horizontal (i.e. not at an angle as it is normally mounted). So, park the car with the engine level, not with the car level.

To completely flush the engine, block off the lower hose to the water pump, remove the thermostat, and use a garden hose to force water into the short pipe immediately under the thermostat. This is the port to the water pump, from which the water will go into the port that distributes it through the engine and back again to the thermostat housing. You will get wet...

Disclaimer: I've done this only once, and is the best I could figure out from my service manuel. It's at your own risk.
