I have just temporarily retired my 84 245. I still have this problem that only lasts a few minutes in the morning when I start it up. It idles fine for a few seconds then "loads up" on fuel and starts missing and smoking. After a minute or less, it idles fine and I can drive it all day with no problems. I've replaced in the past year the following: cap & rotor, plug wires, plugs, fuel line, voltage regulator on the alternator, rewired all of the grounds in the engine compartment and replaced the engine harness section from the firewall to the alternator and oil sender. The fuel pump is buzzing now and is very old. The lower the fuel level drops, the louder the fuel pump gets. I keep it above a half tank all of the time for my own sanity.
There are three or four wires going down on the drivers side section of the engine harness that may be questionable. They are inside the loom and I am not messing with them. Could this be the problem? Could it be a low fuel pressure problem at first? Since I'm not driving it now, this would be the best time to "experiement" on it.
