Rear axle differences 120-130

I'll try to remember to take photos. But isn't that retainer on the inboard bearing, not the outboard one? Even so, there was no such ring on the half shaft when I pulled it out. There is something behind the outer bearing but I haven't been able to tell what it is. I'll be taking the parts, when they arrive, to a machine shop to have the bearings pressed on. I'll have to red through Haynes again to be sure I am not missing something.

One thing I already know I am mising; is there a special way to pull the bearing cones into the axle tube after the shaft is in place? Do the backing plates and associated pieces actually pull it home? How can I check the allignment of said cone once installed? I don't want to go through this again.
