QUIET CLUNK WHEN I STOP 700 1986

1986 740GLE AT-ZF (no overdrive) 150,000 miles

When I come to a stop, especially if it is anything more than the most gentle stop imaginable, there is a clunk I feel in the car. It doesn't seem to come through the steering wheel, but it could be. It is almost a gentle clunk, and doesn't seem to make any noise, just a vibration through the car. It feels like it is behind the drivers seat... what could this be??? There are no clunks or slips from the tranmission from a stop. The transmission shifts smooth and light throttle, and assertively and solid at full throttle with no slip.

Any ideas?

Thanks!!!
