steering rack play 200

wondering where to look for in rack play, i checked the upper and lower joints and they seem tight on my 89 240 wagon. I want to replace the rack due to leaking from the boots, it sat for 4 months and leaked dry....i am getting a tapping/clunk, small but noticable from where the shaft runs into the steering box on top of the rack...this is normal? and where is the best place to go with a rack replacement? dealer (AAAAAAAA!!!) Groton?(where i will most likely go!)
