Welding the ball joint.

In fact, if the threaded hole goes all the way through and you do it right
you might be able to drill it out without serious damage to the hole.
Unless you are in a remote location, I doubt if finding the right grade of
bolt will be a serious problem. If you do run a bolt all the way through, a
self-locking nut would be a good idea, or maybe loctite (TM) or even double
nuts locked against each other.
