Coolant drains out right away after adding it. 200 1988

Just a quick summary of what happend to cause it:

Did a super dumb mistake tonight, Had the car in second gear(auto) getting onto the freeway, I was wondering why it wasn't shifting, look down and its in second, look behind me, coolant steam behind me. Shut down car, and off to the shoulder. Fluid starts leaking right away, got a flashlight and its green(at least it wasn't red transmission fluid as I first thought!)

Adding coolant and it drains out right away, towards the back of the engine.
A guy stopped and took a look at it, and said it might be the "frost plug" that had blown out. He was able to push my car with his truck onto the nearest exit ramp a half mile away. Got it towed back home, just wondering if anyone has any ideas on what it could be.

Thanks!
