coolant temp guage difference? 200

hi all. 85 244 turbo, i swapped out my coolant temp guage in the cluster with the older style that shows H & C also the fuel guage that shows F & E. the coolant temp guage i installed reads much higher than the one i removed and almost in the red while sitting in traffic. can anyone shed any light on this?
