960 rear main seal R&R S90-V90

Greetings BBers, My wife's '96 960 Runs great with 160K miles. However, seems to be leaking oil like a sieve from the rear main oil seal. Being the DIY that I am I ordered a new rear main seal, and a case of Mann filters from FCP Groton. Jacked it up, secured it on stands and went to remove the transmission. But, there is no dust shield on the bottom so I can remove the torque converter bolts from the flex plate. The only way I see remotely to do this would be through the hole where the starter is. Can someone tell me the trick to removing this dadgum tranny? I appreciate all responses.
Merry Christmas to everyone on the brickboard,
Walt
