Now I thought was being clever...

Shatz,

I live high in the Rockies and find similar data here during snowstorms. When traveling along I-70 (up in the mountains with steep grades and plenty of curves) for any 10 vehicles off the road, my observations have typically been : ~7 are suvs, ~2 are cars, and ~1 will be an 18 wheeler. Of the ~7 SUV's off the road, usually 1 has rolled. These are just my observations.

A friend of ours flew into Denver airport last week and couldn't make her connecting flight. She rented a car and the rental agent offered to give her an SUV since it was snowing, there was several inches on the ground and she was going to be heading over two, 10,000 ft. mountain passes on I-70. She said "No Thanks.... those are the first vehicles off the road in this kind of weather". She took a front wheel drive Monte Carlo instead because she felt safer. She made it with no problem, passing the SUV's that went off the side of the road.
