Trying to test oxygen sensor but can't get signal. O2 sensor, multimeter, or user?

I have not been able to access the search on this site and kep getting a "500 internal server error." message.

I have a 5 Function - 12 range Analog Multimeter and can't get any type of signal from the O2 sensor. Could the wire be bad? What seting should I have the multimeter set on? I have 3 DC mA settings and 4 DC V settings, 4 ACV settings, and one OHM setting. I have stuck one of the test leads on the wire coming from the O2 sensor and the other one on ground and then tried that one on the connecntion to the computer but with absolutly no movement of the needle no matter what. Could the multimeter not be quick enough to sense anything or is it me or the wire. I asuume that I should be able to pick up something!
thanx
