90 240 wagon check engine lite

the check engine lite came on at start up or shortly after, the car was up to temp and running fine.it has the ez116k set up.checked for fault codes and found none the code 111 came up,no problems except we can not clear the check engine lite(shut it off)followed the bentley steps to clear lite, still on and car still runs fine.should we disconnect the - neg termanel on the battery for a short time 15/20 minutes will this affect anything like the radio ect.please help.
