replacing air bag sensor module (under seat) 700 1990

Any words of wisdom for r and r the air bag module (some call it the crash sensor) under the drivers seat? I assume to disconnect the battery...
-do I have to take out the seat to get it out?
any precautions?
The old one is reading a code 5 and can not be cleared.
