85 240 DL intermittent stalling 200

Hey all, I;ve done some searches and tried to remedy this problem by myself, but its starting to kick my ass

i've a 85 240DL that intermittently stalls.
I've changed plugs/wires/fuel filter/fuel pump relay/
everything short of a primary and secondary fuel pump from my previous experience either a fuel pump works or doesn't at all; so i am hesitant of replacing them.


the car runs beautifully, but every so often it decides to stall, and become difficult to restart
sometimes the car immediately restarts, and sometimes it takes a couple minutes to a half hour to restart.

everytime i try i feel i'm wearing down the starter

if anyone has some ideas please let me know
