OD unit 700 1990

Bryan,

The overdrive solenoid is located on the left side of the transmission (driver's side). Don't know if you have ever seen one, but it is a round cylinder about the size of a 35mm film can (maybe slightly larger in diameter). It has wiring that runs toward the rear of the transmission and attaches to the shift linkage. As you said, if you could acquire one dirt cheap, it may get you up and running again. I just meant that, if you plan on keeping the car for a long time, a new unit may be a better investment.

Good Luck,

Joe S. - Volvo Master Technician

P.S. - If you do remove the solenoid, be sure to thoroughly clean around it first. Any dust and dirt will enter through the fluid passage and mess things up.
