How to pull distributor gear? 140-160 1974

I believe the IPD HD pump only has the relief spring modified and the reinforcing ring included for the drive end.
Hard as that supply tube was to press into the block gallery I can't believe it ever leaks! Of course, I can certainly understand pinching it during installation.

If the ring is in place on the pump shaft there is little likelyhood of the socket spreading and interfereing with the bush or the ring would have been left in there!

The engine is "in" and more or less running, eh? If it were out I would suggest a little valve grinding compound and some hand-lapping (remove gear and shaft from pump to accomplish).

It is still possible that some varnish is on the bush... perhaps innovation with a scotchbrite pad will help? lightly scour the bush in place? Still have the potential for nasties in the sump/oil galleries, however.

Maybe a little gumout carb cleaner and a cotton swab.
