Lambda Sond light 200 1983

The Lambda Sond light is on in my son's 1983 244 GL. His inference, reading the manual, is that this is basically the same meaningless light as the "service engine" light that comes on to remind people to service their engine, not as an indicator of any trouble. Assuming that the engine runs fine, no smoky exhaust, no suspicious power loss, is it correct we just need to reset the switch that caused the light to come on? (Within the last 8000 miles we cleaned the PCV, replaced plugs and ignition wires).
