Re-post. Am I testing correctly? 200

I think I have enough adventure in my life right. This is more like a nightmare. On that note I am looking at the Bentley manual under Ignition System 280-11 section 3. Check for power to the control unit.Should be battery voltage at terminal 6 and ground with the ignition on.As Bruce has stated perhaps signal is missing from ignition switch. But how, why?
To recap my 1990 240dl overheated.I could not stop so I tried to drive the few miles back home. The car turned off once and within a minute or 2 restarted.I drove it about 2 more miles and it shut off,no restart. Had the car towed, after the 2 mile walk.I have tested the coil,ok.Power stage,ok.Cap and rotor,ok. Timing belt not broken.Still no spark.I want to get it started so I can hear the engine to see if it can be repaired, redo the head or replace with another engine. I need to fix this car as my backup Volvo also is need of minor attention. Thanks to eveyone for your input.
