Gear Selector Button hard to push

1991 240 DL automatic: The gear selector button (in the top of the shifter)isn't working smoothly. Yes, I have a microswitch problem? (reaching through the brushes and pushing the little switch to the left in order to get it into R) That has worked well but now I have to fiddle with the button to get it to depress in just the right way in order to get it into R.
