T belt misaligned, other woes 700 1986

Plug wire location on this engine agree with what you have indicated.

Will try again to seat and tighten the tensioner this afternoon, as that is the area that I suspect is the problem, despite having removed and reinstalled it two or three times already.

Still trying to figure out where the crank marks are supposed to be. To my thinking, so long as the cam TDC mark and the crank TDC mark are in line, and number one piston has been ascertained to be at the top of its stroke, everything should be just Jake. Is that correct? I am not using the white marks on the belt through frustration with the crank pulley and guard installation/interference.
