Distributor Ignition System Firing Order question 900

’93 945T

Last night I replaced the spark plugs, wires, and the distributor cap (and the thing that spins within the distributor cap). All parts were from ipd.

I hooked up the wires the same way that they were before, which is as follows:

(calling the spark plug closest to the front of the car #1 with #4 being the one closest to the firewall, and on the distributor cap reading from left to right when looking at it from the front of the car):

4-3-1-2

It runs fine, but the owner’s manual says that the firing order is: 1-3-4-2

Is that 1-3-4-2 the order that the wires should be in, or is that something else? If that’s the order that the wires should be in, what is the convention for numbering the spark plugs and the points on the distributor cap?

Thanks!
