240 Trunk struts - how to remove/attach 200 1988

I have replacement struts for my 240 trunk, but how do I get the old ones off? There's a metal pin or screw (or something) in the trunk-lid-end that has to come out, but how? I can't find a manual or FAQ that describes this, and so far haven't managed to budge them by either pressing or unscrewing. How are they attached?
