Some use various methods to relieve the fuel pressure before opening the fuel lines. I find that if you do it first thing in the day, there is almost no pressure. Only a little gas is spilled and nothing is hot to make that a problem. Just put a rag under the area to catch what does come out.
Use a screwdriver to loosen the clamp holding the fuel line to the FPR.
Remove the two bolts holding the FPR to the fuel rail.
Pull the FPR out of the fuel rail; straight out toward the driver's side fender. It is just held in by an O-ring which should come out with the FPR.
Then pull the FPR off the fuel line by pulling it toward the front of the car.
Installation is the reverse, except you will use the two bolts to force the O-ring and FPR into the fuel rail. Be sure to keep it striaght and turn each bolt a little at a time in turn. If it gets too crooked going in, the fuel rail can bend or the O-ring can tear.
I have had good luck with used FPRs from the pick-n-pull. They get very little money for them and mine will take it back for credit on the off chance it is bad. So you could get a replacement and a spare for far less than one new one.
If you want a new one, I suggest fcpgroton.com. You don’t say what year 740 you have. If it’s a non-turbo 1990 or later with Rex-Regina, I suggest you buy the FPR for a 1989 (LH 2.4). Several Brickboarders, including me, have found that this much cheaper FPR works just great with Regina. Volvo gets $140 for the Regina FPR.
