Strange wind noise, going nuts!

Possibly leaves caught in the cowling area. Is your fan motor good? If not it could be the wind is spinning the fan and the dried-out bearings are making that noise. One of the strangest noises I chased down was coming from around the front of the doors, both sides, sounded like what you describe. It turned out that the paint flaking off the bottom of the mirrors was acting like a reed against the mirror, causing a howling noise. The airflow under the mirror was just right to cause noise - not enough to blow the paint off but just enough to cause noise. Scraped the paint off and no more noise... Might also be a vacuum leak - except you'd hear that at any speed.
