Hi -

The market code on my 1988 240 GL is 31. The code is on the metal label on the right side inner front fender.

It signifies 1)Federal and California, and 2) manufactured in Sweden.

The book shows a code 81, same emissions but made in Canada, and a code 83, made in Canada but no emissions stated.
