Overdrive light either dim or on 700 1989

Eric,
It might be that the wire inside the shifthandle is damaged (isolation cracked)and sometimes hits ground.
It runs from the switch in the handle, through the tube and over the hump into the dash under the ashtray.
Most common defect is a totally broken wire.
To approach the wire you have to disassemble the console.
Is not a hard job.
