If the latch is not releasing, you may be able to reach it by removing the rear seat and reaching through. A small kid may fit through the opening or a broomstick for those more well proportioned!

In any case, the latch is pretty much out in the open if you can get back there. It is simply a tab that pushes to the right and down to un-latch IIRC.
