Well, running out of light and time, I polled some other people and came up with a recommendation of yes. so I applied a film of black high-temp silicone to the top and bottom and re-sealed the gasket. The thing was unbent. But it did seem that almost all the bolts had worked loose. I used the lock-washered bolts from my other B18 and put it all back together.
I'll refill the crankcase with durablend tomorrow and see if it holds together.
I'm reminded of the 1st lesson I learned when I had my 1st volvo.
If you can keep oil in them, they will run forever.
Seems to be quite the challenge to keep oil in these old ones.
I'll take a look at the oil pressure switch and replce the gasket there before I refill. I have the carbs off awaiting the heatshield for the HIF6s, so now is a good time to get down there and check for loss. I already replaced the rubber seal around the oil breather box.
Also, is there anywhere else on the back of the head, where I could be loosing oil (besides the valve cover)?
