I too have never seen one break... usually the stop comes loose as George mentioned, or the chain just falls off the cog or one of the pulleys.

My question though... why the hell are you getting pulled over for collector plates? I'm planning on being in your neck of the woods in about a month... in my 122 wagon. With Colorado collector series plates. Perhaps I'll avoid Bellingham :-)
