Heater valve replacement

Just did a search on valve replacement and saw some great photos and a bit of advice. I've got one question, does anyone have any advice on getting the hose ends off the valve? I have tried twice at the pick and pull for practice, but man O chevitzs those are on there good. I was thinking maybe I want the car warmed up or another way to get some heat to loosen em up.
