And mine would appear to have been worked on since as well. It has double valve springs and bigger valves. The guides all appear to have been worked on as well - tapered in the intake as you describe (with faintly visible grinding marks) and flush in the exhaust ports. It also has hardened exhaust valve seats, not sure if those were original or not.
