I've heard nothing but good things about it, though I haven't tried it. Do you know if it's available locally, or are you mail-ordering it? I once saw it at Canadian Tire in Dartmouth, but haven't seen it since.
I'd stay away from grinding, and I'd be wary of sandblasting - you don't want to pack abrasives into the seams... A rubber-reinforced wire brush on a die grinder is one of my favorites. And most good rust paints tend to stick better when there's a bit of rust on the surface. As long as it's something like POR-15 that kills rust rather than just covering it, there's no harm in leaving it once the scale is brushed off.
