There is a printed circuit board in the control unit in the dash. It suffers from the same bad solder issues as the fuel pump relay. The symptoms are as you describe; intermittent compressor engagement. If you're careful, it can be repaired in the same way - by looking for cracks in the soldered connections with a magnifying glass, then reflowing the solder at those connections with a soldering iron. I had this happen to both a 740 and a 940. I was able to fix the 740, but I believe I got a bit carried away with the soldering iron on the circuit board from the 940 and fried something. Had to order a new control unit from FCP Groton (around $250 as I recall).
