Hey, listen: we are here to try and help each other. Either do something constructive or go away. A master mechanic & engineer who can't make a 1990 Volvo run, with the resources available through this site and elsewhere and with the inherent simplicity of the car, may need to ask for some help - there's no shame in that, if you work on airplanes or robots or even Toyotas for a living then a Volvo will be uncharted territory. If you need to blow off steam, go ahead - fine! No worries! Then ask for help. Please, though, this unsolicited bitching is not getting you anywhere. If you can't or won't fix it get rid of it, those of us who CAN keep them on the road know the difference between a RWD Volvo and a Ford. Get a grip. Your 740 was built when Volvo had no affiliation with Ford. Being an engineer does not compensate for flat-out being wrong...
You are not a Volvo person. Deal with it and move on, don't let it get to you like this! It's just not worth it for a car you don't like!
I wish you a happy Christmas, and may yours be a Volvo-free new year!
Best regards,
