Well, I finally wrestled those pesky brushes back into place, put things back together, checked the solenoid contacts, painted the unit and installed it.

Tried a third battery out of my daily driver 240 and got the engine to crank and start.

Thanks, everybody!

Now I'm out battery shopping.
