Classic problem -- you need to replace your motor mounts. 200 1988

This is a classic problem.... no mystery.

With good motor mounts, the oil filter sits high enough to easy get a strap wrench, or your fingers if you're strong enough, all the way around the filter.

When the right (passenger) side mount collapses, the engine drops enough for the filter to be resting and literally supporting the weight of the engine. You should, with the utmost haste, have the mounts changed (before the filter fails and you lose all of your engine oil) -- and then you'll have no problem with the oil filter.

By the way, it's not a big job to change the mounts -- any shop that knows old Volvos can do it quickly and fairly inexpensively -- but please don't delay.

Good luck.
