I put in a 100amp on my 122 B18. I did read somewhere that a 60amp would
have been better. IPD sells a bracket for the conversion although I believe that is just the bottom bracket. I did see one other place online that had a retrofit that seemed nice.
I instead, used the original generator bracket, and put a long piece of
allthread through with some lock washers and nuts. I left enough hanging
out to connect to the bottom of the alternator and I may have had to add a few washers to bring the alterator pully even with the one on the water pump.
I did also have to experiment with a few vbelts to get one the right legnth.
On the top, I very carefully measured the bracket and cut it too the exact
length I needed so that it would not interfere with the fan blades on the alternator. I can try to take some pictures if this would help.
i did the single wire(with regulator inside) as well.
1 wire to the battery, 1 wire to ground, and 1 wire to your ignition.
It has been wonderful to be able to run everything at the same time.
My generator died when i put a CD player in with a little extra power
to it. i think it was on it's way out before this but i am sure it did the generator in.
It is so nice not to have the little red light going on and off all the time...LOL
The whole thing was just fun for me to do and I am very happy with the results!!!
My one regret is that after I did the retrofit, I found a chrome alternator at summit racing(60-70amp?), that would have fit just as well, and I wish I had bought it instead just to dress up the engine a little.
Good luck and have fun with it and if you have any questions just let me know and I will do what I can to help you!
The best part is the headlights are very bright with the alternator and you can run the lights, radio, heater, wipers, and any other electical thing you like and not have to worry about killing your battery. :o)
By the way, the two links Tony posted were of huge help to me when I did the conversion and i believe the gentleman that is the owner of that website sells a complete convesion kit.
