Generic code scanners cannot reset an error code set by the TCM (trans). The TCM detects the PNP sensor malfunction and tells the ECM (engine) to trip the MIL. If you can get the PNP (by rowing) to not malfunction for at least three complete driving cycles, it should reset itself.
