Heck, I managed to get even my SU's to spit! I found that the problem with my carbs was one carb was extremely lean, the other normal. The lean condition was because the fuel line fell out of the float bowl, giving me one normal carb and one 'dead' one.
If you're finding the spitting is mostly when the engine is cold, you'll probably need to renrich the choke circuit until the engine runs properly when cold and hot.
Probably a jet problem, unless something internal is not working.
If the engine continues to spit when hot, it's still too lean.
Mine was spitting just like a jumped timing gear or burnt valve. I'm glad it was just a gas delivery problem. Hope you get her going soon!
