ELECTRIC BUG SQUASHED 700

Worse than the avian flu, the Volvo electrical flu is even harder to squash.I was plagued by a low reading voltage guage, a badly functioning starter selenoid, and worst of all an ABS warning light which followed no green book diagnostic rules. The latter had caused me to check the wiring in the ignition switch and under the dash, the guage was just an annoyance since I set the VR with a seperate voltmeter to 14.25v so many times that I'm embarrased. It was the starter selenoid that almost quit in the Sears parking lot that did it. I jiggled and twisted and finally got started. Now the ABS light is out and the ABS functions properly, don't really care about the voltage guage. Opps - another bout of flu - the selenoid is F'ing up again and the ABS lite is on. Time for a close inspection. That smaller (than the starter cable) wire from the battery plus pole sure has a half eaten connector. Quick trip to the parts place for a connector that will fit a 3/8 bolt and about a #8 wire, some time with the wire brush cleaning things up and voila, flu gone. Guage is correct, selenoid is strong, and wonder of wonders the ABS is perfect. Damn I didn't even get to crawl under the dash and poke around. Life is good, the bug is just a flattened little car-cusser on the garage floor. File this under "Where to look first".
