If your old harness is intact and can be used as a guide, they're pretty easy to make yourself. The problem with newer cars is the myriad of different colors and patterns used to identify circuits.

Obviously, this doesn't apply to old Volvos! Take out your wiring diagram and count the colors ued to make the original harness. Probably less than 8.

To make your own harness, you'll want to match the colors of the original wires (makes tracing faults via the wiring diagram easier!) and also match the gauge of the original wires. Going larger (lower gauge number) if fine, just don't use smaller wire than the original.

You'll also want to try to get your hands on some connector plugs. In my '64 PV544, there is one on the inner left fender and one in the left side of the trunk. Painless Wiring has everything you'll need to do a good job.

When installing your new harness, remember to thoroughly clean each terminal as you hook it up. The little fuse box under the hood is especially prone to corrosion.

I'd have no idea what having one made up would cost you. The labor cost would probably be through the roof. The only dealing I ever had with an auto electric specialty shop was to aske them to diagnose a no-charge condition in my '63 Covrvair van. Three days and $65 later, they told me it wasn't charging!

I never did figure out why, but the guy who wanted to buy the van didn't seem to mind.
