Sounds like the knock sensor or the temp guage sensor, they do not affect idle either.
Idle is not controlled by any one sensor. There are several components used to control idle. The ECU, throttle body, throttle position switch and the Idle Air Control (IAC) motor. There is a series of adjustments to properly set up the idle after ensuring that all parts are working OK. Erratic idle problems can be caused by a few things such as vacume leaks, sticking throttle butterfly and more.
May I suggest you do some reading in the FAQ section, your engine is the same as a 740 engine. References to LH2.4 are for your 89 model.
