The frustration continues... 1800

Yep. Checked the seal. Replaced it in fact.

The larger flange is definitely a bit longer than the smaller flange, although the actual interface to the transmission is identical. About 1/2" longer in fact... which leads me to believe that for whatever reason the transmission from the 70/71 E cars is slightly shorter than the 72/73 version.

FWIW, the sealing area of the D-type and the Automatic are smaller closer in diameter.
