My advice to all: Get mudflaps.
What's good for getting road tar (a lot of tar) off without damaging the finish?
Parts-store guy said heavy-duty glass cleaner, a razor blade and lots of work. I've also been told Simple Green, nail-polish remover or equivilant, and 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner. The adhesive cleaner specifically lists tar as something it removes, from the picture of the can.
Any other ideas? Now that I've cast out the trunk-stink from my car, these demon clawmarks must be driven from my wife's car.

But I'll take tar any day over the stuff on a car near my office:
Spiffy new car, very nice dark paint, customizations, rims... and nice rooster-tails of yellow road-stripe paint behind each wheelwell. Ouch.
