Is this going to be race only? You'd never be able to use all the flow from 50mm throttles, but if you got them cheaper I'd use them. They might be hard to drive if you don't make the linkages very progressive.

I'd be inclined to use new aftermarket rods if you are going to the expense of custom pistons. Have you looked at using Mitsubishi 4G63 rods rods? You can get new H-beam style from Scat fairly cheaply, $290US/set last time I looked.
